The Indiana Hoosiers finished off a 16-0 perfect season by defeating the Miami Hurricanes 27-21 on Miami's home turf in the 2026 College Football Playoff National Championship. Fernando Mendoza grew up in South Florida and dreamed of playing for the University of Miami who declined to offer him a walk on offer - In a full circle moment Mendoza led Indiana to a National Championship, defeating Miam in their home stadium

Minutes after Ronald Reagan’s inauguration as the 40th president of the United States, the 52 U.S. captives held at the U.S. embassy in Teheran, Iran, are released, ending the 444-day Iran Hostage Crisis. which began when militant Iranian students were outraged that the U.S. Government had allowed the ousted shah of Iran to travel to New York City for medical treatment and seized the U.S. embassy in Teheran.
