Leaf Litter šŸ

We live in the woods. In the fall we have a lot of leaves in the yard. Every year the landscapers show up with blowers and every year we ask them politely to just leave the leaves. Yes, itā€™s messy, but for all the bugs and frogs and larvae that make their winter homes in the dead leaves, we donā€™t mind. We leave the leaves on the flower beds for a winter blanket. They disintegrate and make a mulch.

When the children were small we made piles of leaves for jumping in and one of the dogs thought that was fun too. We would bring select leaves in to dip in paraffin or to make placemats out of clear contact paper. One year we had orange trash bags with jack o lantern faces on them, that we filled with leaves for Halloween .

Nowadays, We are disappointing customers for our landscapers. We leave the leaves. We donā€™t fertilize or use pesticides either. We donā€™t have in ground sprinklers, or timers , but the grass stays green enough and the bunnies like the clover just fine. We will never grace the pages of ā€œ Fine Gardeningā€ and we are alright with that.
