Local Harvest

We live outside of Boston, surrounded by small family owned farms. Some of these farmers have land grants that go back to the King – Others are multigenerational -Many are new farmers. They all are amazing.

When the world shut down last spring, our local farms still gave us access -from our phones – to local produce and meats without a trip to the grocery store. Small farmers have always had to be innovative and responsive, so they were well oriented to pivot. Posting the week’s bounty on Instagram, taking orders by text or email. Payment through Venmo or Apple Pay, these farmers quickly adapted to the new normal. Some still use Facebook and prefer paper checks and payment by mail. Others are word of mouth. They deliver or offer pick up, some have stands. They all shorten the food chain and kept us safe.

Farming communities, like ours, are dotted throughout the northeast, all over the country, and all over the world. Support your local farmers. Shop at farmers markets, sign up for CSA (community supported agriculture) shares. By supporting your local farmers today, you are ensuring that there will be farms in your community tomorrow.
