Neck Guards Save Lives

Hockey parent hearts are breaking all over the world since the accidental death of 16 year old Teddy Baldkin was reported. There, but for the grace of God, goes any one of us.

Canada and Sweden mandate neck protection for amateurs, but U.S.A. Hockey only recommends players wear neck guards. Different leagues have different rules and guidelines – Private Schools may or may not follow State guidelines, in a patchwork that is as confusing as Covid Face Mask recommendations.

We will never know if a neck guard could have resulted in a different outcome. In hockey as in life, there are no guaranties, but I applaude Teddy’s friend, Sam Brande’s effort to raise awareness and I will be signing his Change.org Petition.
