Tik Tok Hacks

I know I am not the demographic that Tik Tok is hoping to reach, with trends about trashing bathrooms and trying to eat soap pods – but I like the cooking and crafts “hacks”. To me, a hack could be a noun or a verb for a cough, a cab driver, sloppy golf or a rough chop of some kind of vegetation. As a transitive verb I think of hack as manipulated computer code to gain access to systems, or a substitute for the word cope or tolerate.

Somewhere, along the way, hack has morphed into a clever tip or technique for doing or improving something. It took me a while to think of a hack as a positive thing, but nomenclature changes and so must I.

I use an app called Pin Tok to organize my favorites by folders. Cooking, craft, organizing – you get the gist. Especially during quarantine the cooking hacks were a great diversion and source of entertainment. Using a foam dispenser for milk ? I never would have dreamed that up – Here are some of my favorites

Milk foam 

I used ½ &½ with a new dispenser/ not a recycled one and it does work – you can buy them at Target or Amazon

Salad in a Mason Jar

Yes, it’s true, the ingredients stay fresher/crisper longer in a jar than in a plastic container. This works for berries too.

Baked Feta Cherry Tomato Pasta Bake

This is the recipe that led to sold out Feta cheese everywhere – Great way to use up cherry tomatoes- also recommend with Boursin instead of Feta.

Scrunchies organized

The Dollar Tree Hacks and Crafts are endless. People use paper towel holders for everything from garbage bag dispensers to baseball cap organizers. The scrunchies one helped me empty a drawer. Cookie sheets, roasting pans, cooling racks and holiday decor that involves spray paint and glue guns are a whole separate group known as Dollar Tree Hacks.

Babs

Last, but not least, Babs is the mother or grandmother you may never have had – filled with cheer, advice and tips on everything from recipes to loading the dishwasher. She almost always makes me smile.

There are a couple of catch phrases – Tik Tok made me do it- Tik Tok made me buy it- Things you just might need from Amazon – just to name a few.

As a platform – It’s not all sunshine and rainbows. Most of my feed is filled with dog, cooking and craft videos – so the algorithms don’t expose me to much of the undesirable content, even though there is plenty of that. Even so, Be prepared for a plethora of four letter words – most of which begin with the letter F and I don’t mean Free:)
